This section sets out the approach for harmonising the streets in an historic area that needs to work for the 21st century. It analyses the existing streetscape and proposes a uniform approach suited to the formal historic layout of the core Seven Dials Conservation Area.

Introduction
This section seeks to achieve a calm and dignified setting for the Sundial Pillar and for all seven radiating streets to be finished to a consistent design and palette for one of England’s key conservation areas.

Harmonising the Streets
This section deals with the streets by type and how they should be unified in style and treatment in the formal set piece townscape of the Dials, captured in Paul Draper’s brilliant recreation of William Hodges’ 1776 painting of the Dials.

Integrating Street Furniture
This section contains guidance and information on the improvement and maintenance of street furniture in the Seven Dials area.

Lighting
Appropriate lighting is an important element of the historic environment and contributes towards a sense of place while also reducing street clutter. The Seven Dials Trust has been active in improving lighting and replacing columns with their own wall-mounted lamp.

Keeping the Footways Clear
This section covers recommendations for those elements which impact on the safe and comfortable use of the footways and the overall management of visual clutter.

Managing the Area
This section covers elements of managing the area to ensure that it can be enjoyed by all who use it, maintaining a balance between commerce and residential amenity, looking at ways of protecting pedestrians and keeping the area clean and uncluttered.
